Biography of Shia Scholars is an encyclopedic work written by Hojjat al-Islam Karim Ucar, Director of Alulbeyt Institution in Germany and teacher of Imam Ja'far Sadiq Mosque. This work was edited by Prof. Dr. Hussein Hatami, a Shia scholar of the Turkish Academy and published with his introduction. The work consists of 5 volumes and introduces Shiite Islamic scholars in chronological order from the first century to the present day. This type of work, called tabaqat in the Islamic tradition, refers to "a type of writing that deals with the biographies of well-known personalities in their field in the Islamic literary tradition". In such works, it is possible to see scholars in a certain branch of science, scholars living in a certain date and period, or books in which the life of a single person is written. In general, it is essential to give information about the scholarly personality of the individuals in the relevant subject in a chronological or alphabetical order. At the same time, such works also provide information about the environment that influenced the scholarly life of the individuals and played a role in the formation of their scholarly personalities. In this framework, the scholar's family, the teachers he took lessons from, his travels, and the political situation in the period in which he lived are all included. In the Islamic tradition, a scholar's circle of scholars is as important as the students who follow the teaching circles established by him. This issue, which refers to the preservation of the scholarly lineage and the formation of schools, is one of the primary issues addressed in such books.
