Abstract
Waste is one of the major human-caused environmental problems. Depending on the economic progress, the population growth and urbanization, the quality and the quantity of waste began to change in time. In today's world where it is not possible to get rid of production and consumption habits, one of the ways to overcome to current the existing problem is to make the waste recyclable and manage it effectively. In this study is to examine the urban solid waste management of Siirt province is investigated. The aim of the study is to analyze the problems encountered in the waste management in Siirt and to offer solutions. For this purpose, waste statistics were accessed from the web pages of the relevant institutions; information about applications performed in waste management practices and problems encountered were provided through interviews with the ministry, municipality and company officials. The results were evaluated via SWOT (Strong, Weak, Opportunities, Threats) analysis and solution proposals were presented. Accordingly, although the recycling practices and environmental awareness have increased in Siirt (compared to before 2017), it is understood not to be sufficient level. However, it is thought that the practices on this subject will be increased with the projects planned to be implemented in the near future. Additionally, it was deduced that the main problems of the management originated from the defects in the control, penal sanction, management plans and practices. In the study, it was concluded that the weaknesses of the waste management to be much, but can be decreased with its strengths and opportunities.
