Abstract
During the National Struggle, patriotic officers, together with Mustafa Kemal Pasha and the Representation Committee, gave a great struggle against the occupation states and the Istanbul Government. One of the important names among these officers is the 23rd Division Commander Ömer Lütfi Argeşo. Originally born in Istanbul, Ömer Lütfi Bey carried out important activities for Afyonkarahisar Sanjak, both as a soldier and as a politician. Especially in the process leading to the Sivas Congress and the elections, he carried out important works in the organization of the National Struggle. During this period, he became one of the key figures in the communication of many regions, especially those in the 23rd Division Command, with Sivas headquarters. Just like the Representative Committee, Ömer Lütfi Bey is of the opinion that in order for the National Struggle to be successful, first of all, the Defense of the Law centers should be strengthened. For this reason, as an experienced and successful soldier during the years of struggle, he both helped organize the resistance movements and did his best for the people to take part in this struggle. Moreover, he provided important assistance to the National Struggle by secretly obtaining weapons and ammunition from the Istanbul Government. Ömer Lütfi Bey, who is also loved and respected by the public, was supported by the Representation Committee for his work and was nominated from Afyonkarahisar in the 1919 elections. Although he was elected to the parliament on behalf of the Representative Committee, it is seen in the archive records that military service came before the deputyship for him. In this study, especially the ATASE and TİTE archives, Ömer Lütfi Bey's life, his deputation process, and some examples of correspondence he made with the Representation Committee and Mustafa Kemal Pasha were tried to be discussed.
