Abstract
Objective: This study was carried out to determine the correlation between psychological well-being levels of Intern nursing students and negative childhood experiences.
Methods: The sample of this descriptive design was determined as 82 students using power analysis. Voluntary intern nursing students without any diagnosed mental health problems were included in the study. As data collection tools, the Student Information Form, Early Life Experiences Scale, and the Psychological Well-Being Scale were used. The data were collected online between 20-24 January 2020 and ended with the participation of 82 students. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis were used for the evaluation of the data.
Results: It was reported that students were 63.1% female, 67.86% equivalent their family income-expense and 55.95% lived in dormitory/apartment, The mean age of students was 21.96 ± 0.71 years. It was found that the mean score of Early Life Experiences Scale was 31.90 ± 10.98 and the mean score of Psychological Well-Being Scale was 44.40 ± 7.01. It was determined statistically significant, a weak and negative correlation between the scores of these two scales (p = 0.002; r = -0.333).
Conclusion: It was found that their adverse childhood experiences were increasing while the psychological well-being were decreasing.
