The
purpose of this research is to reveal the changing perception of ‘good
citizenship’ in the social studies teaching programs from the foundation of the
republic to nowadays (1924-2017). The historic method, which is one of the
survey models, was used in the study since the social studies teaching programs
were analysed from the foundation of the republic to nowadays. The acquired
documents (the social studies teaching programs published from the foundation
of the republic to nowadays) were analysed based on the descriptive analysis
method. When the results of the study were evaluated as a whole, it was found
out that the social studies teaching programs always emphasized ‘citizenship
transmission’ from the past to today. It can be said that the programs included
such expressions related to the perception of ‘good citizenship’ as bringing up
productive individuals who have adopted
the republic ideology; know their responsibilities, rights and tasks for their
nation; recognize the old historically important people; are always ready to do
their best for his nation; and contribute to the development of democracy.
