Abstract
Reading habit is a skill acquired at an early age. In order to acquire this skill, the book the child reads should appeal to him and be appropriate for his age. One of the methods by which the eligibility of the book to the age level concerning content can be measured is to calculate the readability level. In this study, 10 stories in Mustafa Orakci's Ünlülerle Bir Gün series were analyzed with Atesman's readability formula. In the qualitative study conducted with the document analysis method based on the descriptive model, a field expert together with the researcher analyzed the stories in the Ünlülerle Bir Gün series written by Mustafa Orakci in order to collect the data. In this context, the researcher and field expert first determined the number of syllables, words and sentences in the stories. Content analysis method, one of the qualitative research data analysis methods, was used in the analysis of the obtained data. As a result of the analysis, Atesman readability formula was applied. According to the formula results, all 10 stories were found at an easy level in terms of average sentence length. Despite some long sentences, the reason why the stories in the Ünlülerle Bir Gün series are easy texts in general is because they contain too many single-word sentences. When the stories are examined concerning word length, all of the stories have come to the conclusion that they are completely compatible with the characteristic structure of Turkish language. As a result of the research, Mustafa Orakci's Ünlülerle Bir Gün series with an average of 5.62 words per sentence is found to be suitable for 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades.
