Abstract

Abstract
Aim: In this study, it was aimed to determine the knowledge and views of men regarding vasectomy and to determine the factors that affect the knowledge and views of men about vasectomy.
Methods: This analytical-cross-sectional study was conducted with 422 men aged 18 years and over who applied to the urology outpatient clinic of a university hospital. In the collection of the data, a questionnaire prepared by the researchers using the literature was used. The analysis of the data was done with standard deviation, percentage ratios, arithmetic mean and Chi-Square significance test.
Results: 87.2% of the men stated that they did not hear the vasectomy method and 46.2% stated that they would not do the method. 48.6% of the men in the study stated that vasectomy does not protect from sexually transmitted diseases, 52.1% of them stated that vasectomy is an irreversible method and 69.4% is definitely suitable for those who do not want to have children again. 44.3% of the men in the study stated that vasectomy is one of the best contraceptive methods and 60% of them stated that doing vasectomy is not a sin according to our religion. It has been observed that men who are university graduates and live in the province for the longest time have a higher rate of hearing vasectomy method (P <0.05). It was determined that men aged 29-39 can have a vasectomy (P <0.05).
Conclusion: Although most men stated that they did not hear the method, they mostly answered the questions about vasectomy correctly. Most of the men in the study were found to have positive thoughts about vasectomy, but they did not want to have vasectomy. It is important that the healthcare personnel who provide family planning counselling provide comprehensive and effective counselling services regarding uncommon and little-known methods.
