A bibliometric review of academic studies published between 2000-2024 on tourism, sustainability and climate change

Year 2024, Volume: 22 Issue: 2, 268 - 293, 31.10.2024

Abstract

In this study, a bibliometric analysis was conducted to determine the literature trends on sustainability and climate change in the field of tourism. The words to be searched were determined as “tourism”, “sustainability” and “climate change”; the Web of Science platform was used, the SSCI (Social Science Citation Index) index was determined as the criterion and a total of 878 academic works were accessed. According to the date of the studies, 798 journal articles, 74 review articles, 16 early view studies, 6 editorial content and 6 proceedings belonging to different disciplines were accessed, with the oldest publication dated 2002 (1) and the most recent publications in 2024 (17). The data were analyzed using the VOSviewer program on the axis of author-citation-journal-country-institution and keyword analysis. Indexed contents in the Web of Science database were determined as criteria for conducting the analysis. The top 5 most cited authors are Stefan Gössling (1405 citations), Daniel Scott (1066 citations), Michael C. Hall (854 citations), Ralf Buckley (567 citations) and Paul Peeters (555 citations). It is thought that the findings of the study will contribute to the literature.

Abstract

Web of Science veri tabanındaki endekslenmiş içerikler analizlerin yürütülmesi açısından kriter olarak belirlenmiştir. En fazla atıf alan ilk 5 yazar; Stefan Gössling (1405 atıf), Daniel Scott (1066 atıf) atıf, Michael C. Hall (854 atıf), Ralf Buckley (567 atıf) ve Paul Peeters (555 atıf) olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışma bulgularının literatüre katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.
