The teaching of Turkish as
a foreign language started with TÖMER, which was first established in 1984 in
Ankara University and continues in many universities. It has been possible to
teach Turkish as a foreign language within the scope of the programs which
educate Turkish teachers even as only one course (3rd grade 6th semester) in 22
years. The course, which was called as Turkish Teaching to Foreigners, was one
of the compulsory courses taught in the departments of Turkish Language Teaching
in 2006 by rearranging the programs taught in the faculties of education. The
purpose of this study is to determine the readiness and expectations of the
students in the 3rd year (Spring) 6th semester in Turkish Language Teaching
Program. In this study, qualitative research was adopted and face-to-face
interview technique was used. A total of 108 participants were interviewed. The
collected data were subjected to content analysis. It can be said that there is
a clear difference in the readiness and expectations of the participants on the
subject and that this course can only be realized in order to raise awareness
about the subject in a one-semester and 2-hour training week.
