PAPHLAGONİA’DA BİR PERS PRENSESİ VE ONUN KENTİ: AMASTRİS

Year 2016, Volume: 1 Issue: 2, 31 - 46, 30.12.2016

Abstract

Amastris, antik dönemde Paphlagonia olarak bilinen Batı Karadeniz Bölgesi’nin

en önemli kentlerinden biridir. Günümüzde dahi antik kalıntıları ve muhteşem

doğasıyla antik dönemdeki görkeminin yansımalarını taşımaktadır. Kentin isim

Amastris’in kurduğu kentteki yönetim anlayışı ve kült gelenekleriyle Amastris’in

kentine dair ipuçları değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır.

A PERSIAN PRINCESS IN PAPHLAGONIA AND HER TOWN: AMASTRIS

Year 2016, Volume: 1 Issue: 2, 31 - 46, 30.12.2016

Abstract

Amastris is one of the most important cities of the Western Black Sea Region

known as Paphlagonia in antiquity. Even today, the city carries antique remains and

magnificent natures reflecting the ancient glory. Amastris, the source of the city's

name, is the nephew of the last ruler of the Persian Empire III.Dareios, a Persian

princess. It is important that Amastris be the first queen to have money in his name by

establishing a state in his own name in history and the result of his adventurous life,

from the Persian palace to the Black Sea city. In our work, the story of the Persian

princess coming to Paphlagonia, forming a queen, founding the city of Amastris and

then being killed by his own sons, was discussed. In addition, it was tried to assess the

clues of the city of Amastris with regards to her management style and cult traditions

in the city that founded by Amastris
