Observations on the Doric Architectural Blocks from Sinope

Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to identify, date and introduce the doric architectural bloks found in Sinope Ancient City. Three columns, seven capitals and architrave-frieze blocks which were used as reused on the city walls were examined in detail. The determination of typological similarities of all these architectural elements, what kind of buildings they belong to and their dating are also included. In addition to the fact that the city has been inhabited uninterruptedly from the early periods until today, the use of pre-existing architectural materials for a new structure in almost every period makes it difficult to understand the city’s texture in different periods; however, all architectural examples examined within the scope of the research provide preliminary information about the existence of a Doric building starting from the Classical Period to the Early Roman Period.

Sinope’de Bulunan Dorik Mimari Bloklar Üzerine Gözlemler

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Sinope kenti içerisinde tespit edilen Dor düzenli mimari blokların tanımlanması, tarihlendirilmesi ve bilim dünyasına tanıtılması amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma içerisinde Dor düzeninde üç sütun gövdesi, yedi başlık ve kentin sur duvarları üzerinde devşirme olarak kullanılmış olan arşitrav-friz blokları incelenmiş, tüm bu mimari parçaların tipolojik benzerlerinin tespiti, hangi tür yapılara ait olabilecekleri ve tarihlendirilmeleri gibi konulara yer verilmiştir. Kentin erken dönemlerden başlayarak günümüze kadar kesintisiz olarak yerleşim görmüş olmasının yanı sıra hemen her dönemde, yeni bir yapı için önceden var olan mimari parçaların devşirme olarak kullanılması, kentin farklı dönemlerde sahip olduğu kent dokusunun anlaşılmasını zorlaştırmaktadır ancak araştırma kapsamında incelenen tüm mimari örnekler Klasik Dönem’den başlayarak Erken Roma Dönemi’ne uzanan bir Dor düzeni yapılaşmasının varlığı konusunda ön bilgiler sunmaktadır.
