As being the only woman whose name is mentioned in the Quran and titled for a surah, and with the superiority in her life and characteristic, Maryam (Mary) stands out in the Qur’an. Maryam proved that she lived up to her name by spending her life on the will of God. She is a special woman due to both being born as a child of the parents who were almost at the end of fecundity and as miraculously giving birth her son without inseminated by a man. After all, as a virtuous mother she has the most important role in this birth accepted as a turning point in history and the beginning of the Gregorian calendar. So, she has been represented as an ideal woman from past to present both in Christianity and in Islam. Thus, her life has been studied in scholarly work as well as taken as a role-model in daily life by people. In this article, I have examined the opinions of Abu Abdallah Muahmmad b. al-Qurtubi, who was one of the prominent mufassirs, on Maryam in his work al-Cami’ li-Ahqam al-Qur’an.
