1960’lı yıllarda, resimde Soyut Dışavurumculuk, müzikte Avrupa avant-garde akımları etkisini sürdürürken; Stella resmin, Glass ise müziğin çehresini değiştiren akımlarda önemli bir rol oynamıştır. Stella’nın, Black Paintings, Benjamin Moore Paintings, Irregular Polygon gibi serî resim çalışmalarında bir birimi tekrar etmesi, az sayıda materyalle bir form ve resmi tuvalin dışına iten bir etki yaratması; Glass’ın, Music in Similar Motion, Two Pages, Music in Fifths gibi eserlerinde birim tekrarlarıyla elde ettiği vecd etkisine paralel görülmektedir. Her iki sanatçı da farklı materyallerle, benzer teknikler kullanarak benzer etkiye ulaşmışlardır.

In 1960’s, while Abstract Expressionism in painting and European avantgarde movement in music was dominant, Stella played an important role in changing the face of painting, as Glass did in music.Stella’s repeating a unit in a series of paintings like Black Paintings, Benjamin Moore Paintings, Irregular Polygon, creating a form with very few materials and an effect carrying the picture out of the canvas seems parallel with Glass’ creating a trance effect by means of a unit repetation like in Music in Similar Motion, Two Pages, Music in Fifths. Both artists, using different materials, reached similar effects by the use of similar techniques.
