The Relationship Between Tourism and Human Capital Development in Turkey: 1970-2013 Causality Approach

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the relationships between tourism and human capital development in Turkey. The causality relationship between tourism and human capital development was investigated with Toda and Yamamoto Causality approach for the period of 19702013. According to the findings, it is observed that there is a unidirectional causality from human capital development to tourism. The significance of this empirical finding is that the investment in human capital development will affect tourism positively. So policy makers will be able to contribute both tourism and human capital development by developing practices that will take account of this relationships for sustainable tourism activities

Türkiye’de Turizm ve Beşeri Sermaye Gelişimi İlişkisi: 1970-2013 Nedensellik Yaklaşımı

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye’de turizm ve beşeri sermaye gelişimi arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Turizm ve beşeri sermaye gelişimi arasındaki nedensellik ilişkisi, 1970-2013 dönemi için Toda ve Yamamoto nedensellik sınaması yardımıyla araştırılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular neticesinde, beşeri sermaye gelişiminden turizme doğru tek yönlü bir nedensellik ilişkisinin varlığı tespit edilmiştir. Bu ampirik bulgunun önemi beşeri sermaye gelişimine yönelik yatırımların turizmi olumlu yönde etkileyeceğini ortaya koymasıdır. Nitekim politika yapıcılar sürdürülebilir turizm faaliyetlerine yönelik uygulama planlarında bu ilişkiyi dikkate alarak hem beşeri sermaye gelişimine hem de turizme katkı sunabileceklerdir.
