Comparison of Serum Protein Fractions in Diarrhea and Healthy Calves

Abstract

Calf diarrhea is one of the major health problems causing serious economic losses in cattle breeding. This study was intended to investigate serum protein fractions with electrophoresis methods in neonatal diarrhea. In this study, 20 calves that showed signs of diarrhea for 1-20 days in different breeds and genders obtained from farms in the Van city and 10 healthy calves were used as the control group. Blood samples were taken from the V.jugularis of the animals. The collected serum was separated into protein fractions by cellulose acetate electrophoresis method (Helena Lab-TitanIII Serum Protein). The resulting bands were evaluated in the Platinum 3.0 program. According to the results evaluated statistically; there was no significant difference between the groups in terms of total protein, alpha globulin, and gamma globulin levels (P>0.05). Albumin and beta globulin levels were higher in the diarrhea group than the con-trol group. There was no statistically significant difference (P>0.05) between the groups in albumin, alpha and beta globulin levels in terms of percentage of total protein. However, the albumin/globulin ratio (A/G ratio) was higher in the diarrhea group than that in the control group and gamma globulin level was lower in the diarrhea group. As a result, It was determined that serum protein fractions concentration did not change significantly in the diarrhea group. However, it was determined that the A/G ratio increased, gamma globulins decreased.

İshal Belirtisi Gösteren ve Sağlıklı Buzağılardaki Serum Protein Fraksiyonlarının Karşılaştırılması

Abstract

Buzağı ishali, sığır yetiştiriciliğinde ciddi ekonomik kayıplara neden olan önemli sağlık sorunlarından biridir. Bu çalışmada, neonatal ishalli buzağılarda serum protein fraksiyonlarının elektroforetik olarak araştırılması planlandı. Bu amaçla, Van ilinde bulunan 7 sığır çiftliğinden temin edilen farklı ırklarda ve cinsiyetlerde, 1-20 günlük ishal belirtileri gösteren 20 buzağı ve kontrol grubu olarak 10 sağlıklı buzağı kullanıldı. V. jugularis'inden alınan kan örneklerinden ayrılan serumlar, selüloz asetat elektroforez yöntemi (Helena Lab-Titan III Serum Protein) ile protein fraksiyonlarına ayrıldı. Elde edilen bantlar Platinum 3.0 programında değerlendirildi. İstatistiksel olarak değerlendirilen sonuçlara göre; serum protein konsantrasyonu bakımından toplam protein, alfa-globülin ve gama-globülin düzeyleri açısından gruplar arasında fark olmadığı (P>0.05) albümin ve beta-globülin düzeylerinin ishal grubunda kontrol grubuna göre daha yük-sek olduğu bulundu. Total protein yüzde gram açısından; gruplar arasında albümin, alfa ve beta globülin düzeyleri yö-nünden anlamlı bir fark görülmedi (P>0.05). Bununla birlikte, albümin/globülin oranının (A/G) ishal grubunda kontrol grubuna göre daha yüksek ve gama globülin düzeylerinin ise daha düşük olduğu tespit edildi. Sonuç olarak, serum protein konsantrasyonlarının ishal grubunda önemli ölçüde değişmediği, ancak A/G oranının arttığı, gama globülinlerin ise azaldığı belirlendi.
