Abstract
Following the closure of the Turkish Hearths, People’s Houses tried to fill an important gap in Turkish political and cultural life. One of the foundation purposes of the community centers is to spread social and cultural developments in accordance with Atatürk’s principles. These institutions, which operate in line with the ideology of populism, have made important studies in the enlightenment of the society, especially in educational activities and cultural activities. People’s Houses were established on February 19, 1932 on the instructions of Gazi Mustafa Kemal. Aksaray People’s Houses, one of these institutions, was opened on 19 February 1933. In the establishment instruction of People’s Houses; Service to the public with 9 separate branches: Language, History, Literature Branch, Fine Arts Branch, Representation Branch, Sports Branch, Social Assistance Branch, Courses and Courses Branch, Library and Publication (Publication) Branch, Peasantry Branch and Museum and Exhibition Branch. gave. People’s Houses have been established considering the needs of society. With the programs carried out here, it is aimed to raise the awareness of the society, to adopt the values of the republic, to realize the national identity and to bring the people to the level of modern civilizations. In this study, the establishment, activities, institutional structure and closure of Aksaray People’s Houses were examined in the light of archive documents. The results of the activities carried out by Aksaray People’s Houses and their contributions to Aksaray province and the country were evaluated. As a result of the research, it was determined that Aksaray People’s Houses has been carrying out successful activities in line with the main purpose of the development and modernization of the society, and besides this main purpose, it has made great contributions to the city of Aksaray. culture, arts, education, sports and social life.
