The aim of this research is to examine the attitude of secondary school students in Niğde towards English lesson in terms of some variables and compare the students’attitudes towards English lesson in terms of class level and gender.
Data were collected via the correlational survey model, one of the scanning methods.The participants of the study are eight secondary school’s students in Niğde in 2017-2018 academic year. Population consists of the secondary school students who are educated in Ministry of National Education. The sample of research consists of the eight secondary school students from Niğde Ministry of National Education, four village school and four central school students, whose names are presented as tables in the study. Qualititive research method was used to reveal the students’ perception of the concept of English as realistic and holistic in natural environment. Design of the study was determined as phenomenology. The metaphor information form including personal information was used for obtaining the data.
Based on the findings obtained; It can be concluded that there is not a common opinion about the concept of English in the students, and the metaphors and the reasons given are not very different since they are close to each other between the 7th and 8th grades.
