Examining the relationship between school alienation and loneliness levels of faculty of sports sciences students

Year 2024, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 52 - 62, 05.07.2024

Abstract

Although university life is a period that contributes to the academic and social development of the individual and shapes career plans, it can also bring some negative experiences. Among these negative experiences, factors such as alienation from school and loneliness are perhaps the factors that affect university students the most. For this reason, the current study aimed to examine the relationship between school alienation and loneliness levels of sports science students. In this research, in which the relational screening method was used, the relationship between school alienation and loneliness levels of sports science students was tested with the structural equation model. 204 students studying at the Faculty of Sports Sciences participated in the research. The research data are the "University Alienation Scale" developed by Kurtulmuş, Kaçire, Karabıyık and Yiğit (2015) and the "Loneliness Scale" developed by Russell (1996), revised by Wongpakaran et al., (2020) and adapted to Turkish culture by İnanç and Ekşi (2022). It was obtained using the “scale”. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to determine the suitability of the scales used within the scope of the research to the structural model. Skewness and kurtosis values were checked for the normality assumption of the data, and the relationship between school alienation and loneliness level was tested with Pearson correlation and SEM analysis. As a results, it was determined that there was a positive significant relationship between the loneliness and school alienation levels of sports science students, and alienation scores significantly predicted loneliness scores (β = 0.476, z = 6.17, P = 0.001).

Spor bilimleri fakültesi öğrencilerinin okula yabancılaşma ve yalnızlık düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi

Year 2024, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 52 - 62, 05.07.2024
