EVALUATION OF MOTHERS' SELF EFFICACY AND POSTPARTUM SENSE OF SECURITY

Year 2021, Volume: 4 Issue: 1, 34 - 44, 29.04.2021

Abstract

Aim: A sense of security is a key element that can influence the journey to become a successful parent. It is very important for mothers' sense of security in the postpartum period for both their own and the baby's health. With this study, it was aimed to evaluate mothers' general self-efficacy and postpartum sense of security and to determine what factors affected them.
Methods: The sample of the descriptive study was performed in a university hospital, It constituted 148 mothers who have healthy newborns and have not to develop any complications. The data were collected by Personal Information Form, Mothers' Sense of Security Scale and General Self-Efficacy Scale in the postpartum first week. Number, percentage distribution, one-way analysis of variance, two independent samples t-tests were used in the analysis of the data, p <0.05 was considered significant.
Results: The average age of the mothers in the study is 29.70 ± 6.23, 33.8% of them are primary school graduates and 93.2% are housewives. The mean score of the postpartum mothers' sense of security was 50.39. A statistically significant difference was found between the mode of delivery, the state of being educated about the postpartum period, the presence of anxiety about one's own health and infant health, and feeling safe after birth. A significant correlation was found between the mean postpartum sense of security scale and the general self-efficacy score.
Conclusion: Mothers who have a cesarean delivery, lack of education about the postpartum period, concern about the baby's health, have lower sense of security in the postpartum period. Based on these results, it is very important for nurses/midwives who are always with the family in the postpartum period to discover the risks that affect the sense of security and to provide effective care.

ANNELERİN ÖZ YETERLİKLERİ VE DOĞUM SONU GÜVENLİK HİSLERİNİN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Year 2021, Volume: 4 Issue: 1, 34 - 44, 29.04.2021
