Infertility is the inability to conceive after twelve
months of regular sexual intercourse without contraception. In our country infertility is called sterility
which means lack of productivity, and is accepted as a
defect or deficiency. Cultures form too much social pressure on couples for their reproduction. The failure to
conceive is known to be associated with health problems, low self-esteem, a feeling similar to mourning,
depression, guilt and disappointment. While the couple
who have a big desire for a child face psychological exhaustion with feelings of inadequacy and guilt, they are
also exposed to pressure by their family, friends and
their immediate surroundings. This pressure can sometimes result in violence which is one of the most undesirable consequences. With the diagnosis of infertility,
the reaction of the person and people around him/her
start to get affected by the culture and social gender
concepts of the region.
