Abstract

Institutional & Organizational Economics

Abstract

New Institutional Economics (NIE) is an approach that studies institutions and organizations. Since its emergence, it has contributed to basic arguments such as transaction costs, property rights, and contracts. In 2015, NIE changed to Institutional and Organizational Economics (IOE). However, there have been some improvements to the research agenda, adhering to the key arguments. The first of these are hybrids, which Williamson considers among alternative arrangements. However, developments over time have enabled us to take a closer look at the characteristics of hybrids. The second is meso institutions, a relatively new concept in the economics literature. Meso-institutions, in the simplest terms, are structures that provide the link between macro-institutions and micro-institutions. This study emphasizes the name change process and two concepts on the research agenda.
