KANT’S UNDERSTANDING OF MUSIC, ITS LIMITS AND POSSIBILITIES

Year 2021, Issue: 31, 513 - 530, 12.05.2021

Abstract

Kant’s thoughts on music constitutes controversies. Kant, whose relationship with music is known to be quite limited, draws a negative picture by placing music at the bottom in relation to thought in the hierarchy of arts. However, the tension and undecidability between what Kant points out in his examination of the beautiful and agreeable also allows an efficient evaluation. This article argues that Kant’s controversial approach points to a possibility to consider music philosophically, albeit in the form of nuclei. Through this possibility one can evaluate music as Affecteklehre and claim that Kant has peculiar ideas.

KANT’IN MÜZİK ANLAYIŞI, SINIR VE İMKANLARI

Year 2021, Issue: 31, 513 - 530, 12.05.2021
