Weaving has been an art that has been known since prehistoric times and came to life in various civilizations. The reason for their need for dressing was to be covered and to be protected against external influences. Their first clothes were reeds, leaves, grasses and the pelts of the animals they hunted. The stems of the leaves were knotted and attached to form clothes. The creation of fabric by making use of various fibers was realized with the development of agriculture and animal husbandry in ancient times. The tools used in weaving and the first woven fabric finds have proven that the history of weaving dates back to ancient times. In archeological digs, loom weights and looms used in the weaving have been surfaced. The handlooms and weaving techniques that have survived until today have changed from the Neolithic Period to the present. Textile, which started with Penelope and Ishtar looms, has assumed a structure that has been constantly developing until today with the Industrial Revolution. In the historical development of weaving, the similarities of the tools, techniques, materials used in our country, especially in our villages, are determined by comparing them. In this research, the beginning and development processes of comprehensive weaving, starting from the prehistoric period times in the states established in the Mesopotamian geography, from the Anatolian civilizations to the Ottoman Period, the oldest handlooms, weaving tools and weaving examples have been discussed with images. The study was conducted in order to contribute to the increase of awareness about the historical process of traditional weaving. According to the screening model, one of the qualitative research methods, and the literature data, it was discussed at the conceptual level accompanied by samples.
