Year 2011, Volume: 13 Issue: 2, 68 - 80, 01.08.2011

Abstract

The nurses should test and develop nursing models and theories to create their own scientific knowledge. Roy Adaptation Model is one of the models most commonly used, and constantly tested and improved in research, practice, and education fields of nursing. The principal concept of the model is "adaptation". Coronary artery bypass graft surgery distorts adaptation of the individual in all dimensions including bio-psycho-social-spiritual fields. According to the Roy Adaptation Model, the goal of nursing is to develop effective adaptation behaviors in physiological, self-concept, role functional and interdependence adaptive modes by using regulatory and cognitive-affective coping mechanisms against environmental stimulants and to achieve the patients to the integrated living process. In this article, early nursing care of patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting was analyzed according to Roy Adaptation Model's concepts.
