This study was aimed at investigating the dimensions of physical, sexual, economic, emotional/psychological violence against women in the last five years in Turkey and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on such violence. Within the scope of this systematic review Turkish Medline, ULAKBIM, Google Scholar and PUBMED databases, and the thesis search engine of the Council of Higher Education were screened using Turkish and English keywords, and 742 studies (649 articles, 47 theses and 46 reports published on the web pages of the related public and non-governmental organizations) were accessed. Of the 742 studies, 43 community-based studies (26 articles, 10 dissertations, 7 reports) which were conducted with women in Turkey, and whose full texts were published in English or Turkish between 2016 and 2021 were reviewed by the two researchers. In studies published between 2016 and 2021, the rate of women exposed to one or more types of violence ranged between 14.1% and 43.0%. A decrease was observed in the rate of women exposed to one or more types of violence in the years after 2016. However, while there was a decrease in the frequency of physical violence, there was an increase in the frequency of sexual, economic and emotional/psychological violence in 2020 compared to 2016. The prevelance of all types of violence perpetrated during the pandemic was higher than was that perpetrated before the pandemic.
