In the mid-1960’s, Textlinguistics emerged as a sub-branch of Linguistics. While the text is considered as one of the the most important parts of the analysis, the context of the text has gained importance with the emergence of textlinguistics. When analyzing the text, the linguistic structures of context and text are evaluated as a whole. The aim of textlinguistic analysis is to reveal and describe the functionality and the structure of the text as a means of communication. In this study, a textlinguistic analysis was performed on the textbook “Lagune”, which is used in the teaching of German as a foreign language. The aim of the present study is to examine whether textbooks used in foreign language teaching are appropriate to the target group in terms of Textlinguistics or not. Firstly in this study, the subject matter of Textlinguistics is examined in detail and then in the context of the texts in the textbook. The research has been carried out in two parts as theoretical and practical and in the conclusion part, the outputs of this application are mentioned. This book, which was used as a textbook for German language teaching at Hacettepe University School of Foreign Languages, is chosen because it has reached more than 700 students in the formal education and it contains different levels of readings. The readings were chosen in the context of B1- B2 according to the European Language Reference Framework, and within the context of Textlinguistics and their suitabilities for language education were also examined according to the Textlinguistics. The analysis of readings was conducted by using text analysis method and the results were interpreted accordingly. As a result of the study, the data analysis revealed that the readings in the textbook are chosen as appropriate according to the Textlinguistics however, it is sufficient in terms of newly learned information due to the use of new idioms. Moreover, it is observed that these forms within the text are compelling about reading comprehension which is two of the four competencies in the language.
