Otizm Spektrum Bozukluğu Olan Çocuklarda Beslenme Aktivitesinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Sağlıklı beslenme çocukların gelişimi için önemlidir. Sağlıksız beslenme
engelli çocuklarda sıklıkla görülmektedir. Özellikle otizm spektrum bozukluğu (OSB)
olan çocuklarda yemek yeme aktivitesinin sıklıkla etkilendiği belirtilmektedir.
Bu nedenle bu çalışmada OSB’li çocukların yeme davranışlarının incelenmesi
amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak
sosyodemografik bilgi formu, Otizm Öğün Davranışı Kısa Formu ve Duyu Profili
Oral Duyusal İşlem alt parametresi kullanıldı. Sosyodemografik bilgi formunda
ebeveyn yaşı, mesleği, eğitim düzeyi, aile yapısı, Engelli Sağlık Kurulu
Raporu’nda yer alan tanı(lar), yemek yeme davranışını etkileyebilecek diğer
faktörler (kabızlık, çiğneme-yutma problemi, vb.) ve ebeveyn tutumları
kaydedildi. Veriler frekans, yüzde, aritmetik ortalama ve standart sapma ile
verildi. Bulgular: OSB’li çocuklarda yemek çeşitliliğinde kısıtlılık
olduğu, oral duyusal işlemlemede zorluk yaşadıkları, yemek yeme saatlerinin
belli olmadığı, yemek yeme sırasında genellikle görsel uyaranların
kullanıldığı, ebeveynlerin çocuklarını bağımsız bir şekilde yemek yemesi için
teşvik etmediği, OSB’de uygulanan diyetler konusunda bilgi sahibi olduğu ve bu
diyetleri uygulamaya çalıştığı saptandı. Sonuç: OSB’li bireylerde yemek
yeme aktivitesinde problem olduğu, bu problemin ailenin yaşam kalitesine etki
edebileceği ve bu nedenle OSB’li bireylerle çalışan profesyonellerin gerekli durumlarda
gerekli yönlendirmeleri yapmasının önemli olduğunu ve ailelere çocuk beslenmesi
konusunda eğitim verilebileceğini düşünmekteyiz.

Investigation of Feeding Activities in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Abstract





Objectives: Healthy nutrition is important for the development of children.
Nutritional disorders are frequently seen in children with disabilities. It is
reported that eating activity is frequently affected especially in children
with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate
the eating behaviors of children with ASD and their parents’ attitude. Materials
and Methods:
Sociodemographic information form, Brief Autism Mealtime
Behavior Inventory and Sensory Profile Oral Sensory Processing section were
used as data collection tools. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with
the parents about other factors (constipation, chewing-swallowing problem,
etc.) that might affect the child-feeding behavior. Data were given with
frequencies, percents, arithmetic means and standard deviations. Results: It
is found that children with ASD had limited food diversity (47.22%, n:17),
difficulty in oral sensory processing (63.88%, n:23), and uncertain meal times
(47.22%, n:17). The findings showed that parents generally used visual stimuli
during feeding time (50%, n:18), did not encourage their children to eat
independently (47.22%, n:17), had information about diets applied in ASD
(80.55%, n:29) and tried to apply these diets (30.55%, n:11). Conclusion: It
is thought that there is probably a problem in eating activity in children with
ASD and therefore it is important for professionals working with children with
ASD to make the necessary referrals.
