Tıp Fakültesi Öğrencilerinde Fizyoterapi ve Rehabilitasyon Farkındalığının İncelenmesi

Year 2023, Volume: 10 Issue: 1, 199 - 212, 30.04.2023

Abstract

Öğrencilerin %83,5’i fizyoterapi hakkında bilgi sahibi olduklarını, %45,8’i fizyoterapiyi üniversite eğitimi sırasında öğrendiğini belirtti.

Investigation of Awareness about Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation among Medical Students

Year 2023, Volume: 10 Issue: 1, 199 - 212, 30.04.2023

Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the awareness about physiotherapy and rehabilitation among medical students.
Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 4th, 5th, and 6th-year medical students were included. In the first part of the study, a survey consisting of questions about physiotherapy and the roles of the physiotherapist was prepared by the experts in the field, and the content validity study of this survey was carried out. Then, survey questions consisting of four parts were directed to the participants. Data were presented as numbers (%).
Results: A total of 212 students participated in the study. 83.5% of the students stated that they had physiotherapy knowledge, and 45.8% of the students indicated that they learned physiotherapy during their university education. 63.2% of the students didn’t know about the cost of physiotherapy services. While more than 80% of the students knew that physiotherapists work in orthopaedics, athletes, elderly, and child health, the awareness percentages in other areas were partially low. The students had a high level of knowledge about the treatment methods by the physiotherapists, except for drug treatment. While most of the students were undecided about the physiotherapists' ability to diagnose, they thought that the role of physiotherapists in the health team was essential and that they could participate in interdisciplinary research.
Conclusion: This study indicated that the medical students had a good level of awareness about physiotherapy, but they didn’t have enough knowledge about the areas of practice and job descriptions in the world.
