Year 2024, Volume: 11 Issue: 3, 732 - 745
https://doi.org/10.21020/husbfd.1337305

Abstract

Investigation of the Relationship Between Mother-Child Interaction and Sensory Modulation of Children and Their Mothers

Year 2024, Volume: 11 Issue: 3, 732 - 745
https://doi.org/10.21020/husbfd.1337305

Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between sensory modulations of typically developing children and their mothers. It was also aimed to examine the correlation between the mother's sensory modulation and the mother-child relationship.
Materials and Methods: In this study, 70 children aged 4-6 and showing typical development and 70 mothers were included. Sensory Profile was used to evaluate sensory modulation of children, Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile was used to evaluate sensory modulation of mothers, and Child-Parent Relationship Scale was used. Obtained data were evaluated with Spearman correlation analysis.
Results: According to the results obtained from the study, significant correlations were found between the sensory modulation characteristics of the mothers and the sensory profile of the child (p<0.05). A correlation was found between the low registration and sensory sensitivity sensory profile of the mother and the mother-child relationship (p<0.05).
Conclusion: As a result, features related to sensory modulation in mothers affect the behavioral states of children related to sensory modulation. At the same time, it was observed that the sensory modulation characteristics of mothers affect the mother-child interaction negatively. It was thought that it is important to evaluate the sensory modulation problems of the mothers who care for the children who are taken into the intervention program due to sensory modulation disorder and to apply the necessary approaches in this context, and it will support the intervention process regarding the children.
