Kuru Gözün Anksiyete ve Depresyon ile İlişkisi

Year 2020, , 366 - 371, 25.12.2020

Abstract

Abstract

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the tendercy to anxiety and depression in dry eye disease patients who had not previously received psychiatric diagnose or treatment.
Materials and Methods: The study included 32 dry eye, 31 control group patients. Schirmer, Tear Break Up Time (TBUT) and The Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) were performed. Beck Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory were used for psychological evaluation.
Results: Schirmer test, TBUT, OSDI values were significantly different in both groups (p <0.001). In the patient group 53.1% had positive depression score while 35.5% had positive depression score in the control group. Although the number of patients with depression was lower in the control group, there was no significant difference between the patient group (p> 0.05). According to positive anxiety results, there was a statistically significant difference between the patient group (71.9% vs 41.9%) (p <0.05). The patients with severe anxiety were significally lower in the control group (3.2% vs 21.9%) (p <0.05).
Conclusion: In this study, dry eye syndrome was associated with anxiety. This relationship needs to be taken into consideration in compliance with dry eye treatment and treatment practices in psychiatry clinics
