Year 2023, , 34 - 50, 01.07.2023
https://doi.org/10.55243/ihssr.1232665

Abstract

En yüksek atıf alan çalışma, Richter ve Norman (2010) tarafından yapılan “AIDS Orphan Tourism: A Threat To Young Children in Residential Care” dir.

The Relationship between Tourism and Children: A Bibliometric Evaluation of Studies Related to Tourism and Children

Year 2023, , 34 - 50, 01.07.2023
https://doi.org/10.55243/ihssr.1232665

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of the article is to evaluate the studies on "tourism and children" on the basis of the VOSviewer database, using the bibliometric analysis approach, and to provide up-to-date data guidance for researchers who would like to reserach in this field.

Design/Method: Web of Science (WoS) database was used to access related studies and VOSviewer software was used to analyze the literature. To find leading trends in the literature, 125 studies were found with the help of the WoS database over the period 1975-December 2022. Based on the studies examined, publications and citations in the field of tourism and children, Web of Science categories, analysis of the most cited publications, the most used keywords, the most contributing countries, the most contributing organizations, the most productive authors, and the most productive authors of the publications. Many sources are discussed.

Results: The first publication in the field was found in 1992. In the 2000s, variable processes were experienced in the context of publications, and the main increases were observed after 2020. It is seen that the citations made in the field also have a serious increase as of 2018. 40.80% of the studies are seen in the category of Hospitality Leisure Sport Tourism. The most cited work is “AIDS Orphan Tourism: A Threat To Young Children in Residential Care” by Richter and Norman (2010). The most used keywords are “tourism” “children” and “child sex tourism”. The largest contributor is Australia; The largest contributor is Southern Cross University. The most prolific author in the field is Antonia Canosa, and the most productive resource is Tourism Recreation Research.

Original Value: The study creates a roadmap for researchers by providing the most up-to-date information under the heading of "tourism and children" using the Wos database. The study, which has a similar method in foreign literature, was published in 2016 and made a systematic literature review by considering certain sources. In the study, significant increases were observed in the publications in the related field after 2018, and all bibliometric data between 1975 and 2022 were evaluated with 125 sources.
