Abstract
Islamic banks are known to maintain their presence in the financial market in Turkey as well as in the global financial market in two ways. The first is a new financial system as an alternative to the traditional financial system, and the second is the view that it is integrated into the existing financial system. Asymmetric information problem is a very common problem in the banking system in the world and also in Turkey. The increase in technological innovations and the digitalization of banking activities have been of great benefit for the solution of this problem. In the banking sector and Islamic banks, studies are carried out for the existence and solution of this problem. In the light of this information, the aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between the asymmetric information problem affecting Islamic banks in Turkey and macroeconomic variables. While choosing the NPLs of Islamic banks as the dependent variable, the study aims to examine the existence of asymmetric information end in Islamic banks in both economic stability and economic crisis periods by using monthly data between the period 2005:12-2020:03. In the study, MSIAH(M)-VAR(p) model was used since economic stability and economic crisis (2009-2012) periods were distinguished. As a result, in the context of macroeconomic variables, it has been seen that the problem of asymmetric information in Islamic banks is higher in periods of economic crisis than in periods of economic stability.
