Abstract
The aim of this study is to conduct a SWOT analysis of sustainable energy sources in Turkey in terms of the green economy phenomenon. For this purpose, the policies implemented in the transition to the green economy in Turkey are discussed after explaining the conceptual and theoretical framework of the green economy phenomenon. By virtue of the SWOT analysis chosen as the method in the study, Turkey's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats were determined in terms of sustainable energy resources. The findings of the study highlight hydroelectric, wind and solar energy sources as potential sustainable energy sources in Turkey. Turkey's high potential and geopolitical position in terms of these energy resources are important strengths, while the country's economic situation and the ineffectiveness of sustainable energy policies are important weaknesses. With the effect of the global conjuncture, foreign dependency in energy has become more debatable, and increasing awareness of Turkish people on sustainability are significant opportunities. In terms of increasing sustainable energy resources, the necessity to outsource some inputs for power plant installations, the additional demand brought about by the increasing need for energy in the country, and the negativities caused by the low income of households are important threats.
