One of the main problems that emerged after the events that took place after the death of the Prophet is the issue of caliphate/Imamate. Although non-Shiite sects, especially Ahl al-Sunnah, attach special importance to the caliphate/imamate in a religious sense, they eventually see it as a human duty/institution. However, the Twelver Shia distinguishes between the concepts of caliphate and imamate. While it sees the caliphate as a human institution and identifies it with the sultanate, it interprets the imamate through the divine mission of the Risalah. In this context, according to them, when the office of prophethood with the Prophet Muhammad came to an end, the mission of divine prophethood did not end, but continued in the office of imamate. As a result of the definition of the imamate office through the mission of prophecy, why imams should be appointed by Allah, the religious status of imams and their qualifications have been developed through this discourse. As a natural consequence of this, the sciences of tafsir, hadith, kalam and fiqh were read as imamate-centered, and from time to time, the fiqh provisions in some secondary issues were interpreted in a way that did not contradict the theory of imamate. Beyond this, there have been strong traces of imamate belief, which has the mission of divine prophecy, on history, politics and social life.
