Türk Bankacılık Sektöründeki Yeşil Finans Uygulamalarının Analizi

Abstract

Abstract

As climate change impacts worsen, it's clear that environmental degradation poses a significant threat to financial stability. Green finance is an approach that combines financial sector capabilities with environmental sustainability to promote environmentally responsible behavior and address interconnected problems. This study examines the green finance practices in Turkish banking sector to address climate change and promote sustainable development. As a result of the study, the following findings and conclusions were made: Green finance practices in Turkish banking sector have grown, but still need improvement in areas such as scaling, standardization, training, risk management, and stakeholder demand. With regulatory support, digitalization, and collaboration, the future of green finance in Turkish banking sector looks promising. By advancing green finance practices in the banking sector and focusing on sustainable development, Türkiye can mitigate climate change risks and secure a more resilient future for its economy and society. Our country's climate risk and vulnerability is at a critical level, and without urgent action, climate-related natural disasters are expected to increase, leading to potential loss of life and significant economic costs. Additionally, Turkey's competitiveness could suffer due to the EU and other countries imposing carbon-based tariffs. Therefore, it is criticial to implement urgent measures to combat climate change and promote the growth and continuity of green finance practices in Turkish banking sector.
