Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between lifestyle of women aged 59 years and over, and urinary incontinence (UI). The research is a cross-sectional kind, among descriptive research types. Data were collected from 240 female individuals over the age of 59. Socio-Demographic Characteristics form and Incontinence Behavior Determination Form were used to collect data. IBM SPSS 20.0 package program was used for data analysis. P< 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. It was observed that the individuals participating in the study were mostly (53.3%) in the 59-64 age group. Considering the factors that increase the UI problem, it was seen that incontinence problems were encountered in individuals with a high average age, in 89 individuals with urinary tract infection, and in all individuals who had a gynecological surgery. It was determined that 100% of the individuals who had this problem had never heard of the kegel exercise. According to the research, when UI and individual and gynecological characteristics were compared, UI has been observed to be related with; age, first menstrual age, use of diuretic drugs, presence of urinary tract infection and existence of gynecological surgery history. Considering daily habits, excessive fluid intake during the day and the frequency of making kegel exercise, as well as factors as the age at first birth, number of births, delivery type and multiple pregnancy status among the characteristics of pregnancy have been determined to be effective. It can be said that the implementations made for this are insufficient and new training plans should be created.
