Eski Sözcüğe Yeni İsim: Arap Dilinde Retronimler

Abstract

Teknolojik, sosyal ve kültürel gelişmelerin ortaya çıkardığı yeni durum, kavram ve nesnelere dilin yapısına uygun olarak sözcük oluşturmak kaçınılmaz bir gerekliliktir. Neolojizm olarak isimlendirilen bu kavram, içerisinde çeşitli sözcük grupları bulundurmaktadır. Bu sözcük gruplarından biri olan retronim, daha önceleri tek başına kullanıldığında net bir karşılığa denk gelen sözcüğün, birtakım gelişmeler sonucu çeşitlenmesi nedeniyle anlam karışıklığını önlemek için bu cinsin ilk biçimine verilen isim olarak ifade edilmektedir. Retronimler, kavram oluşturma gerekliliğinden ortaya çıktığı için dilin iç dinamiklerini harekete geçirmektedir. Arapça ise klasik dönemden itibaren yeni sözcüklere kavram oluşturma konusunda yeterli işlenebilirliği olan bir dildir. Arap dilinin, sahip olduğu sözcük üretme mekanizmasından yararlanarak eski sözcüklere kavram oluşturmada da başarılı olacağı açıktır. Bunun gerçekleşebilmesi için retronim kavramının yeterince bilinmesi gerekmektedir. Nitekim Arapça kaynaklarda bu kavrama ilişkin bir bilgiye rastlanmamıştır. Bu çalışmada retronimin genel özelliklerine ve Arap dilindeki kullanımına yer verilmiştir. Bu retronimler tematik, yapısal, bağlaşıklık ve anlamsal açıdan ele alınarak kavramın kullanımı örneklerle desteklenmiştir.

New Names for Old Things: Retronyms in Arabic Language

Abstract

It is an inevitable necessity to form words for the new situations, concepts and objects brought about by technological, social and cultural developments, in accordance with the structure of the language. This concept, which is called neologism, contains various word groups. Retronym, which is one of these word groups, is expressed as the name given to the first form of this genus in order to avoid the confusion of meaning due to the diversification of the word, which used to be used alone, as a result of some developments. Retronyms activate the internal dynamics of the language, as they arise from the necessity of creating concepts. Arabic, on the other hand, is a language that has sufficient flexibility in creating concepts for new words since the classical period. It is clear that the Arabic language will be successful in creating concepts for old words by making use of its word production mechanism. In order for this to happen, the concept of retronym must be sufficiently known. As a matter of fact, there is no information about this concept in Arabic sources. In this study, the general features of retronym and its use in Arabic language are given. These retronyms are discussed in terms of thematic, structural, cohesiveness and semantics, and the use of the concept is supported by examples.
