Abstract

Erich Auerbach succeeded Leo Spitzer as Professor of Romanistic studies
at the Faculty of Letters of the Istanbul University. Acting in the name of the
Minister of Education, the Rector of the University signed a contract with Erich
Auerbach on the 15th of October 1936. This contract was renewed three times
in 1941, 1943 and 1946. Prof. Auerbach’s contract includes conditions which
are particular to his academic position, and distinct with regard to the standard
contract proposed to the émigré professors from Europe. A publication of Prof.
Erich Auerbach’s contracts allow for an assessment of his Istanbul years
between 1936-1947, during which he wrote his magnum opus Mimesis.

Abstract

Ord.Prof.Dr. Erich Auerbach İstanbul Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi’nin
Romanoloji Bölümünde 1936-1947 yılları arasında görev yapmış; bu dönemde
Mimesis olarak tanınan baş yapıtını yazmıştır. Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı adına
hareket eden İstanbul Üniversitesi Rektörlüğü ile ilk sözleşmesini 15.10.1936
tarihinde imzalayan Erich Auerbach’ın sözleşmesi 1941, 1943 ve 1946
yıllarında üç kez yenilenmiştir. İncelenen sözleşmeler, daha önce yabancı
profesörler için hazırlanan standard sözleşmelere göre ayrıcalıklar içermektedir.
İlk kez yayımlanan sözleşmelerle Prof. Erich Auerbach’ın çalışma koşullarının
ayrıntıları açıklanmıştır.
