Abstract

Pomegranate juice is a fruit juice that we consume in our daily life, and it is known that the pomegranate

is very useful for health. In this study, it was aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of pomegranate juice

which is commercially purchased and consumed against different Gr (+) and Gr (-) bacteria and its potential

synergistic effect when it is used together with antibiotics. For this purpose, pomegranate juice branded “meySu”,

which was purchased commercially, was used. According to results, Ampicillin, Gentamicin and pomegranate

juice exhibited different antibacterial effects against test bacteria (7.64-9.23, 22.26-22.98 and 19.07-20.14 mm,

respectively). It was observed that pomegranate juice had the higher antibacterial effect than Ampicillin. When

pomegranate juice and Ampicillin were applied together, it was seen that they formed the zone diameter between

20.11-21.14 mm. When ponegranate juice and Gentamicin were applied together, they exhibited the inhibition

zones between 26.36-28.94 mm. These results showed that pomegranate juice exhibited the synergistic effect with

both of the standard antibiotics. The results of this study demostrated that pomegranate juice exhibited the high

antibacterial activity against test bacteria used in this study. In addition, it is also important that pomegranate juice

showed a synergistic effect when used with antibiotics tested in this study.

Ticari Olarak Satın Alınan Nar Suyunun Antibakteriyal ve Bazı Antibiyotiklerle Sinerjistik Etkisi

Abstract

Elde edilen sonuçlar neticesinde tek başına Ampisilin’in 7.64-9.23 mm; Gentamisin’in 22.26-22.98
