ANALYZING THE ARTICLES ON ORGANIZATIONAL SILENCE IN THE WEB OF SCIENCE (WOS) DATABASE WITH BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS METHOD

Abstract

It is possible to talk about the existence of an increasing interest in the issues that are effective on the development processes of organizations in today's structure that is intertwined with competition on a global scale. One of the issues that have the highest impact on this development process is the concept of organizational silence. Considering that small details often create big differences in terms of the survival of organizations in competition, it is seen that organizational silence as a concept, the factors that cause this concept to emerge in organizations and the results of this concept should be evaluated in detail.
One of the main purposes of this research, which aims to examine the concept of organizational silence in depth, is to evaluate the literature on organizational silence in the context of various parameters. Bibliometric analysis was preferred as the method in the research, which was carried out in accordance with this purpose.Within the scope of this method, 125 articles in the Web of Science (WOS) database and published in 2003-2022 on organizational silence constituted the sample of the research.
As a result of the bibliometric analysis carried out on the relevant articles within the scope of the research, studies on organizational silence have increased in recent years, studies originating from Turkey are in the first place and accordingly Turkish authors and journals are at the top, studies on the subject are mostly associated with the field of business economics, and the most cited article is “Spirals of silence: The dynamic effects of diversity on organizational voice” and it was determined that the vi most used keyword is “organizational silence” as it is a reviewing criterion. The concepts that follow the expression in question are; employee silence, silence, patient safety, communication and organizational commitment.

Abstract

Günümüzün küresel ölçekte rekabet ile iç içe geçmiş yapısı içerisinde örgütlerin gelişim süreçleri üzerinde etkili olan konulara yönelik artan bir ilginin varlığından söz etmek mümkündür. Bu gelişim süreci üzerinde en yüksek etkiye sahip konulardan biri de örgütsel sessizlik kavramıdır. Rekabet içerisinde örgütlerin varlıklarını sürdürebilmeleri açısından çoğu zaman küçük detayların büyük farklılıklar yarattığı düşünüldüğünde kavram olarak örgütsel sessizliğin ne olduğunun, bu kavramın örgütlerde ortaya çıkmasına sebep olan unsurların ve bu kavramın sonuçlarının detaylı bir şekilde değerlendirilmesinin gerekliliği de görülmektedir.
Örgütsel sessizlik kavramının derinlemesine incelenmesinin hedeflendiği bu araştırmanın en temel amaçlarından biri örgütsel sessizlik ile ilgili literatürün çeşitli parametreler eşliğinde değerlendirilmesidir. Bu amaca uygun olacak şekilde gerçekleştirilen araştırmada yöntem olarak bibliyometrik analiz tercih edilmiştir. Bu yöntem kapsamında Web of Science (WOS) veri tabanında yer alan ve 2003-2022 yılları arasında yayınlanmış örgütsel sessizlik konulu 125 makale araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur.
İlgili makalelerin bibliyometrik analizi sonucunda; son yıllarda örgütsel sessizlik ile ilgili çalışmaların arttığı, Türkiye kaynaklı çalışmaların ilk sırada yer aldığı ve buna bağlı olarak da Türk yazarların ve dergilerin üst sıralarda bulunduğu, konu ile ilgili çalışmaların en fazla işletme ekonomisi alanı ile ilişkilendirildiği, en fazla atıf alan makalenin “Spirals of silence: The dynamic effects of diversity on organizational voice” başlığını taşıdığı ve tarama ifadesi olması itibariyle en çok kullanılan anahtar kelimenin de “örgütsel sessizlik” olduğu saptanmıştır. Söz konusu ifadeyi sırasıyla takip eden kavramların ise; çalışan sessizliği, sessizlik, hasta güvenliği, iletişim ve örgütsel bağlılık olduğu görülmektedir.
