COVID-19 Pandemisinin Türkiye’nin İhracatı Üzerine Etkileri İçin Bir Analiz

Year 2021, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 272 - 283, 29.06.2021

Abstract

An Analysis for The Effects of COVID-19 Pandemic On the Export of Turkey

Year 2021, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 272 - 283, 29.06.2021

Abstract

The COVID-19 Pandemic has had significant constricting effects on the world economy and the economies of the country. Restrictive measures taken by governments in order to reduce the negative effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the health of society and individuals have had a constrictive effect on the economy. Uncertainties about how long the COVID-19 Pandemic will last have also distorted the expectations of consumers and investors, causing the demands for consumption and investment goods to be delayed. On the other hand, the countries imposing export restrictions on some scarce medical supplies and consumer goods, as well as the increase in protectionist tendencies in foreign trade, led to the contraction of international trade. In this context, the aim of this study is to analyse the effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on Turkey's exports. The effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on Turkey's exports, it is analysed by considering changes in the total export, considering changes in export quantity and export unit value index according to BEC and ISIC classification. According to the study, the contractionary effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on Turkey's exports, which began in the first months of 2020 in particular has been observed that the contraction peaked in April and May. Although the recovery in the economy started in June, the encounter with new waves of COVID-19 Pandemic led to the reintroduction of restrictive measures. The fluctuation in COVID-19 Pandemic has become determinant in the fluctuation in the economy and foreign trade. In the world economy, increasing international cooperation and coordination will be an important policy in reducing the negative effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on the economy and public health.
