Abstract

Neonatal dönemdeki ishallerin yaklaşık %75’i ilk 15 günde görülürken, bu dönemde de ishallerin %73,58’i 6-10 günlük dönemde gözlenmiştir. İlk 15 günde ishal olan buzağıların %32,08’i 16-60 günlük dönemde tekrar ishal olmuştur.

The Relationship Between Different Passive Transfer Status with Diarrhea and Body Weights Before Weaning in Calves

Year 2020, , 93 - 100, 30.12.2020

Abstract

The neonatal period is very important in calves, newborn calves should receive a sufficient amount of colostrum after birth and should be followed closely and managed well. In this study, aimed to investigate the relationship between different passive transfer status of calves and diarrhea conditions which in the first 15 days and 16-60 days period and body weights up to weaning.
Eighty two Holstein calves were included in the study. According to serum immunoglobulin G levels at 24th hours, failure of passive transfer of immunity (FPTI) was 29,26%. Diarrhea occured in 64,63% of calves in the the first 15 days. Of the calves with diarrhea, 56,60% were male and 43,40% were female. While approximately 75% of the diarrhea in the neonatal period was seen in the first 15 days, 73,58% of the diarrhea in this period was observed in the 6-10 day period. 32,08% of the calves which had diarrhea in the first 15 days, also had diarrhea in the period of 16-60 days. In the sixteen-sixty day period, the rate of diarrhea was the lowest in calves whose immunoglobulin G levels was higher than 20 g/L. Body weights of calves with diarrhea in both periods were found to be lower on the 30th, 45th and 60th days compared to calves that had diarrhea in the first 15 days only (p<0.05).
As a result, it was found that calves with very good passive transfer status had less diarrhea in the first 15 days, which positively affected the health status of 16-60 days and the body weight of the end of the weaning period.
