Abstract

Abstract
Aim: The study was carried out to examine the relationship between coronavirus anxiety and death anxiety of nurses and physicians working in the COVID-19 intensive care unit.
Method: The study group of this descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational study consisted of a total of 156 physicians and nurses working in the COVID-19 intensive care unit. Personal Information Form, Short Form of Coronavirus Anxiety Scale and Death Anxiety Scale were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test and Pearson correlation analysis were used in the analysis of the data.
Results: The coronavirus anxiety level of the physicians was determined as 13.59±4.58 and the nurses as 8.64±5.32, and the difference between the mean scores was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). It was observed that the death anxiety level of nurses was 9.13±2.72 and that of physicians was 8.63±2.00, and the difference between the mean scores was not statistically significant (p>0.05). No statistically significant correlation was found between the coronavirus anxiety level of nurses and physicians and death anxiety (p>0.05).
Conclusions and Suggestions: The results of the study showed that the coronavirus anxiety level of the physicians was higher than the nurses, the death anxiety level of the nurses was higher than the physicians, and there was no significant relationship between the coronavirus anxiety of the nurses and physicians and the death anxiety. Based on these results; In the appropriate management of crisis processes such as pandemics, it may be recommended to strengthen the coping skills of nurses and physicians and to support practices aimed at reducing coronavirus anxiety and death anxiety.
