Abstract

The origins of the Maccabean revolt, one of the largest revolts in history, are complex but are based on causes far beyond religious or cultural intolerance. The actions of the Seleucid King Antiochus IV. Epiphanes in Jerusalem and the cruel policies he pursued against the Jews have revealed a conviction that he has a unique hatred for the Jews, their traditions and religions. As a result of the edict and decisions taken by Antiochus IV against the Jews,. In 167 BC, he led the Jewish community to revolt. The decisions of Antiochus, which attacked the Jewish faith, led to further intensification of events and as a result, a violent revolt against the Seleucid Army. This revolt turned into a national revolution over time and paved the way for the end of the Seleucid existence in Jerusalem. At the end of the Maccabean revolt, the Jewish community gained its freedom and established its kingdom. In this study, the policy of the Seleucid King Antiochus VI towards the Jews and the result of the Maccabean revolt that broke out in Judea will be discussed.

IV. Antiochos Epiphanes’in Yahudi Politikası ve Makkabi İsyanı (M.Ö. 175-163)

Abstract

Tarihte yaşanan en büyük isyanlardan biri olan Makkabi isyanının kökenleri karmaşık olmakla beraber dini veya kültürel hoşgörüsüzlük konularının çok ötesinde nedenlere dayanmaktadır. Seleukos Kralı IV. Antiochos Epiphanes’in Jerusalem’deki (Kudüs) eylemleri ve Yahudilere karşı izlediği zalimane politikalar, Yahudilere, geleneklerine ve dinlerine karşı benzersiz bir nefret duyduğuna dair bir kanaat ortaya koymuştur. IV. Antiochos, Yahudilere karşı çıkardığı ferman ve aldığı kararlar sonucu M.Ö. 167 yılında Yahudi toplumunu isyana sürüklemiştir. Antiochos’un, Yahudi inancına saldıran kararları, olayların daha da körüklenmesine ve bunun neticesinde Seleukos ordusuna karşı şiddetli bir isyan başlamasına yol açmıştır. Bu isyan zamanla milli bir devrime dönüşmüş ve Jerusalem’deki Seleukos varlığının sona ermesine zemin hazırlamıştır. Makkabi İsyanının sonunda Yahudi topluluğu özgürlüğüne kavuşmuş ve kendi krallıklarını kurmuşlardır. Bu çalışmada Seleukos Kralı IV. Antiochos’un Yahudilere karşı izlediği politika ve bunun sonucu Judea’da patlak veren Makkabi isyanını ele alınmıştır.
