The first Turkish cinema newspapers were published in 1914. However Ottoman period cinema publishing and publications is a subject which has been less frequently studied and therefore it can be said that it’s still a largely unknown area. In this article, Turkish Cinema, – as far as it is known for the time being – the oldest but probably the first cinema newspaper of Ottoman/Turkish press and cinema history has been unearthed, introduced and analysed for the first time. Secondly, in this article, social, economic, political and ideological dynamics that give rise to Turkish cinema publishing was discussed. In other words, the question of what caused and shaped the first Turkish cinema newspaper(s), was tried to be answered. In this way, the birth and development of the settled/permanent cinema halls, Balkan Wars and Boycott of 1913-1914, Turkish nationalism and its economic aspect “national economy”, demand for cinema and transformation of cinema as a profitable business, are some subjects in contact.
