Abstract
Arshag Alboyadjian presented both the general population of Kayseri and data on the Armenian population under the heading “People and the Armenian Population”, which is located between 692 and 700 pages in the third part of the first volume of his book “History of the Armenians of Kayseri”, published in two volumes in Cairo in 1937. He mostly based the statistical data on Armenian authors and publications, patriarchate records and travelogues belonging to foreigners. It has been acted with the data of the population statistics kept since the beginning of the 19th century. With the statistical data prepared by Kinneir, which was first revealed in 1813, it was tried to explain the ratio of the Armenian population in Kayseri to the general population. The information given by Ainsworth in 1839, H. Barth, who travelled around Anatolia between 1850 and 1859, and Mordtmann, who was in his team, were compared with the data of Kinneir, who had previously presented statistics.Alboyadjian based most of the data in his study on the data of Armenian researchers, foreign sources and patriarchate records. A photograph of Kayseri of the period was taken by compiling the notes taken by foreign travellers who travelled to Anatolia since the 1800s and kept reports about these places, and also carried out missionary activities, as well as the population information in the encyclopaedic works. The data formed together with the population censuses after the establishment of the Republic of Turkey are also included in the work.
