Abstract
It is possible to see the traces of the Ottoman civilization, which has left a deep impact on Turkish and world history, in every field today. These traces, which determine the fate of the past and the future with their political, economic, social and cultural dimensions, have been taken in many academic studies and various determinations have been put forward. However, various studies are needed to understand such a huge and complex civilization. In this study, the issue of debts arising from the expenses of palace women in the Ottoman Empire was highlighted. In this context, the historical process of the debt issue is touched upon. The issues that are effective in turning the debts arising from the ostentatious and costly lives of palace women into problems have been examined within the general framework. In order to understand the issue, the example of Ms. Nalandil was examined. The distribution of the goods that are the subject of Nalandil Lady's expenses and expenses in terms of origin has been revealed. Thus, expenses and debts have been compared. An attempt has been made to establish the balance of the debt balance sheet. The reasons that are effective in turning debts into a problem have been explained. And at this point, the solution policy of the statesmen and the developments was discussed.
