Educational beliefs of the music teacher candidates were identified in this study for which
survey research was used. “Educational Beliefs Scale”, which was developed by Yılmaz,
Altınkurt and Çokluk (2011), was used as data collection tool in the research. The research was
conducted with 455 undergraduate students studying in the departments of music education
in 2014-2015 academic year in which are positioned in different geographical regions of
Turkey and were selected via random sampling. At the end of the study it was established
that the dominant educational philosophies of the participants are respectively “existentialist
education”, “progressivism”, “reconstructionism” and “essentialism” being the lowest.
