OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to investigate whether anatomical measurements in our faces give an idea about personality traits or-not.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 76 females and 75 males university students have been participatated in this study. The photographs had been taken from the frontal and profile position by using digital photograph machine and the photographs had been transferred to software system. Morphometric measurements had been performed on the photographs by using AutoCAD 2008 PhotoShop Programme. Anatomical structures related with eye, nose and three facial heights had been measured.
RESULTS: According to the results obtained from statistical analysis, there were significant correlations between height of nose and extroversion as a poor negative, very poor positive correlation between height of nose and conscientiousness, poor positive correlation between upper face length and negative valance, very poor positive correlation between lower face length and openness to experience, poor positive correlation between distance of eyebrows and negative valance and poor negative correlation between distance of eyes and agreeableness in females. Also in males, stronge negative correlation between negative valance and face width, and poor negative correlation between upper face length and neuroticism had been determined.
CONCLUSIONS: According to our results, some facial measurements can give us an idea about our personal properties.
