A Controversial Religious Character İn Antiquity: Judas Iscariot

Abstract

Judas Iscariot is a very important figure not only for Ancient History but also for the History of Christianity and therefore for the History of Religions. Because of his character and his role in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, he is considered by many to be one of the most hated people in history. He is mentioned in all four Gospels of the New Testament (Mark, Matta, Luke, John). However, in these sacred texts, the similarities as well as the differences about Judas Iscariot are quite striking. From the meaning of Judas Iscariot’s name to his selection as an apostle, from the process of betrayal and his psychological state to his death, many issues are as interesting as they are controversial.

Abstract

Judas Iscariot, yalnızca Eskiçağ Tarihi için değil aynı zamanda Hristiyanlık Tarihi ve dolayısıyla da Dinler Tarihi için oldukça önemli bir figürdür. Gerek karakteri ve gerekse de İsa’nın çarmıha gerilmesi olayındaki rolü nedeniyle birçok kişiye göre tarihin en nefretle anılan insanlarından biridir. Yeni Ahit’teki dört İncil’de (Markos, Matta, Luka, Yuhanna) de kendisinden bahsedilmiştir. Ancak bu kutsal metinlerde Judas İscoriat ile ilgili benzeşen ifadeler olduğu kadar ayrışan yönler de oldukça dikkat çekicidir. Judas Iscariot’un isminin anlamından havari olarak seçilişine, ihanet sürecinden ve psikolojik durumundan ölümüne kadar pek çok konu tartışmalı olduğu kadar ilginçtir.
